Prepare Your Painting Crew To Efficiently And Safely Use A Suspended Scaffold

A suspended scaffold is a temporary platform that your painting crew may need to use on occasion, especially when completing painting tasks that are near the upper part of a building. Before you get a scaffolding rental, provide your workers with training and implement some strategies that will assist with completing painting tasks in the required timeframe and preventing careless accidents.

Purchase A Training Kit Or Sign Up For Formal Training

Purchase a training kit that has been prepared for the use of a suspended scaffold. The main objectives that will be covered are how to anchor a scaffold to the top of a structure, how to lift and lower the platform, what types of safety gear to wear, and the importance of not placing to much weight on the platform or using the scaffold for any reason other than what is is tended for.

Formal training is another option that will give your painting crew a glimpse of the mechanisms of a scaffold and how to safely climb onto the platform or move work materials onto the equipment. A computer training module may also be offered during formal training, which will present information and test your workers afterward.

Learn The Components Of A Rental Scaffold

When you rent a suspension scaffold, you need to take the time to learn how to use the equipment, even if you are fairly certain that you are educated enough to safely use it and monitor your workers. Point out the components of the rental scaffold to your workers before it is anchored to the building that is being painted.

Tell your workers that you are going to break them into groups during the painting project so that certain people will be responsible for painting while standing on the rental equipment, whereas others will be responsible for painting different parts of a structure or monitoring the workers who are using the suspended scaffold.

Check In At The Beginning Of The Shift And Observe

Make plans for all of your workers to check in with you prior to using the scaffold. This will provide you time to inspect the scaffold's anchoring system and ensure that it is attached correctly. Observe the painting that has already been completed and let your employees know which parts of the building that you would like them to work on for the day. After everyone gets started, observe your workers routinely throughout the day.
