Most people do not use heavy equipment daily, but if you are working on a project and need some machinery to complete the work, a heavy equipment rental service might be the best solution. You can rent smaller equipment for small jobs, and for larger jobs, you can often find larger machines.
Skid Steer Loaders
Probably one of the most versatile machines you can get from a heavy equipment rental company is a skid steer loader. These machines are great for working in tight spaces because they can turn in a full circle on one spot, they are extremely powerful and can lift a lot of weight, and the controls are sensitive enough to use the machine to grade a surface.
The number of available attachments for these machines is nearly unlimited, and often, the heavy equipment rental company will have anything you need for the machine. If you are landscaping, installing a new driveway, or doing some other work that involves moving rocks, soil or other, materials, a skid steer may be the perfect machine for the job.
Ask the rental company about the machine's delivery if you do not have a way to haul it, and be sure to ask about attachments you may need so they can deliver them at the same time. If you are not sure how to use the attachment, ask the delivery driver to show you how it works before they leave. In most cases, they are happy to go over it with you so that you do not damage the equipment.
Back Hoes
A backhoe can be useful if you are digging trenches for plumbing or wiring and have a long distance to go. Backhoes are available in many different sizes, so talk to the heavy equipment rental company about the job you are doing so they can help select the right machine for you.
Renting a machine with the hoe on the rear and a bucket on the front can be helpful so that once the lines or pipes are in the trench, you can use the bucket to backfill it. The machine does not need to be huge to do this kind of work, and often a smaller machine will work better for residential use because it is easier to maneuver around your property.
If the job is larger, you can rent machines that have larger buckets and will dig deeper, but they are not always going to work as well in tight areas, so be sure you have space in the area you are working for a larger machine when you select the machine for the job you are doing.
